Roof Repair in Echo Park, CA

Sampling the official CAL FIRE maps puts about 73% of Echo Park’s land in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone, all on the 2025 local map, and about 86% in some zone. In the Very High and High areas a replaced roof, or half of it or more within 12 months, needs a Class A covering under the Wildland-Urban Interface Code, and any covering applied in a repair must be Class A too. On the other 21% of Echo Park, Moderate zones included, state law still requires at least a Class C fire-rated covering when more than half of a roof is replaced within a year (Health and Safety Code 13132.7).

In the Census tracts inside the county’s Echo Park area there are 7,512 housing units; 82% were built before 1980 and 4,131, 55%, in 1939 or earlier (Census ACS 2024 5-year). 39.6% are detached houses and 32.1% of occupied homes are owner-occupied. A reroof on a house that old is also a check of the sheathing beneath it.
