Below: how to check any roofing contractor yourself, what to ask before you sign, and where NEMA works. Roof Inspection ## What you get when you call NEMA - **Fully Licensed & Insured** – Certified roofing professionals with years of experience - **Free Roofing Estimates** – Honest pricing with no hidden fees. - **Insurance Claims Assistance** – We help you navigate the claims process for storm damage repairs. - **Emergency Roofing Services** – Immediate response to protect your home from severe damage. - **Standing you can check:** CSLB license #1083283; 5.0 stars from 400+ Google reviews; GAF Master Elite contractor, Owens Corning Preferred Contractor and Polyglass Preferred Contractor. ## How to check a roofing contractor before you hire A roofer’s license, insurance and manufacturer standing can all be verified independently, and each one protects you in a different way. 1. **State license.** Look the license number up on the [Contractors State License Board](https://www.cslb.ca.gov/) website. Check that it is active, that it carries the roofing classification (C-39), and read the complaint disclosure. NEMA’s license is #1083283, with the roofing (C-39) and general building (B) classifications. 2. **Bond and workers’ compensation.** The same CSLB page shows the contractor’s bond and whether a workers’ compensation policy is on file. Workers’ compensation matters on a roof: it covers injuries to the crew working on your house. 3. **Manufacturer standing.** Shingle and membrane makers certify contractors, and some warranties can only be registered by a certified installer. You can confirm a contractor’s status in each manufacturer’s own contractor directory. 4. **Reviews that describe real jobs.** Look past the star rating to what reviewers say about leaks fixed, clean-up and follow-up calls. 5. **A written contract and a lawful down payment.** California limits the down payment on a home improvement contract to 10 percent of the contract price or one thousand dollars, whichever is less. A request for much more up front is a warning sign. roofing contractor near me ## Questions to ask any roofer, and what good answers sound like | Ask | A good answer | | --- | --- | | What exactly is wrong with my roof? | A specific cause, shown to you in photos, not only “it’s old”. | | Repair or replace, and why? | A reason tied to what was found: local damage points to a repair, wear across the whole roof to a replacement. | | Which roofing system, and which parts are included? | A named product line, underlayment, flashing, ventilation and disposal written into the proposal. | | Which rules apply to my address? | Whether the lot is in a fire hazard severity zone (Class A roof required) and whether the re-roof must be cool-rated in your climate zone. | | Who registers the warranty? | The installing contractor, with a confirmation you receive when the job is done. | Roofing Contractor Near Me ## Where NEMA Roofing works “Near me” should mean a contractor who knows the local rules. NEMA’s five Google-verified locations are in Santa Barbara, Oxnard, Woodland Hills, Tarzana and Downey, and a NEMA team covers every town in: - **Santa Barbara County:** Santa Barbara, [Goleta](https://nemaroofing.com/service-areas/roofing-services-goleta-ca/), [Carpinteria](https://nemaroofing.com/service-areas/roofing-services-carpinteria-ca/) and [Montecito](https://nemaroofing.com/service-areas/roofing-services-montecito-ca/). - **[Ventura County](https://nemaroofing.com/service-areas/ventura-county/):** [Oxnard](https://nemaroofing.com/service-areas/roofing-services-oxnard-ca/), Ventura, [Camarillo](https://nemaroofing.com/service-areas/roofing-services-camarillo-ca/), [Thousand Oaks](https://nemaroofing.com/service-areas/roofing-services-thousand-oaks-ca/), Westlake Village, Santa Paula, Ojai and the rest of the county. - **Los Angeles County:** Woodland Hills, Tarzana, Encino and other communities. - **Riverside and [San Bernardino](https://nemaroofing.com/service-areas/san-bernardino-county/) counties.** Local rules differ even inside one county. Santa Barbara, Ventura, Oxnard and Camarillo are in California’s building climate zone 6, while Ojai, Westlake Village and Woodland Hills are in zone 9, where most sloped re-roofs on houses must be cool-rated. You receive a no-obligation proposal naming the work, the roofing system and what is included. 4. If the damage came from a storm, fire or water, we explain what your insurer will want to see. Depending on what the roof needs, the next step is a [roof repair](https://nemaroofing.com/our-services/roofing-repair-near-me/), a [roof replacement](https://nemaroofing.com/our-services/roofing-replacement/) or a [full inspection](https://nemaroofing.com/our-services/roof-inspection/). Roofing Contractor Near Me ## Questions about hiring a roofing contractor ### Does a roofer in California need a license? Yes, for practically any roofing job. Since January 1, 2025, the only exemption is minor work under one thousand dollars that needs no permit and uses no hired workers; any job that needs a building permit, or any crew, requires a CSLB license, and roofing falls under the C-39 roofing classification. ### Should I get more than one estimate? For a replacement, yes. Compare them line by line: the same roofing system, tear-off, underlayment, flashing and disposal. A lower price with a thinner scope is not a lower price. ### Do you work in my town? If you are in Santa Barbara, Ventura, Los Angeles, Riverside or San Bernardino county, very likely.
